Things We Wish Every Couple Knew Before Their Wedding ❤️

After hosting countless weddings, we’ve learned that it’s usually the little things—not the big things—that can make your day either feel effortless or unnecessarily stressful. We hope these tips help you enjoy every minute of your wedding weekend.

1. Your guests don’t know the timeline.

If you don’t tell them where to be and when, they simply won’t know.

Assign someone to help direct guests to the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception so you aren’t answering questions all day.

2. Keep your decorating team small.

Too many people decorating often creates confusion instead of helping.

Choose two to four people who know your vision and let everyone else relax.

3. Label EVERYTHING.

Use Banker’s Boxes with large labels.

Even better, tape a photo of the completed table to the outside of each box.

It saves countless questions and speeds up setup tremendously.

4. Assign one point person.

On wedding day, vendors shouldn’t be asking the bride or groom questions.

Choose someone you trust—a parent, sibling, maid of honor, best man, planner, or family friend—to answer questions and make small decisions.

That way, you can simply enjoy your day.

5. Eat breakfast… and eat dinner.

This sounds silly, but it’s one of the biggest mistakes couples make.

Between nerves, photos, and greeting guests, many couples barely eat.

Pack snacks for the cottage and ask someone to make sure you actually get a plate during dinner.

6. Stay hydrated.

South Carolina weddings can be warm, even in the spring and fall.

Drink water throughout the day, especially if you’re celebrating with alcohol later.

7. Build extra time into everything.

Hair runs late.

Someone forgets shoes.

A boutonniere disappears.

Traffic happens.

Adding 15–20 extra minutes throughout your timeline makes the day feel relaxed instead of rushed.

8. Designate someone for gifts and cards.

Choose one trusted person to collect:

  • Cards

  • Gifts

  • Guest book

  • Marriage license

  • Cake topper

  • Guest favors

  • Personal décor

This prevents important items from being accidentally left behind.

9. Have a transportation plan.

If alcohol is being served, decide before the wedding who will drive anyone who has had too much to drink.

Having designated drivers or ride-share plans already in place helps everyone end the evening safely.

10. Pack an emergency kit.

We recommend bringing:

  • Pain reliever

  • Band-Aids

  • Bobby pins

  • Safety pins

  • Sewing kit

  • Deodorant

  • Hair spray

  • Phone charger

  • Extension cords

  • Surge protectors

  • Batteries

  • Lint roller

  • Stain remover

  • Scissors

  • Zip ties

  • Double-sided tape

  • Command Hooks

You’ll probably only need one or two things…

But you’ll be glad you packed them.

11. Don’t overdecorate.

The barn, fields, sunsets, and surrounding property are already beautiful.

Sometimes less really is more.

Save yourself time, money, and cleanup by letting the venue be part of the décor.

12. Wear comfortable shoes… at least for setup.

Gravel, grass, and uneven ground are part of our beautiful farm.

Bring comfortable shoes while decorating, then change into your wedding shoes before photos or the ceremony.

Heel protectors are also a great investment if you’ll be walking outdoors.

13. Let people help you.

Friends and family often ask, “What can I do?”

Give them something.

Whether it’s setting tables, picking up ice, greeting vendors, or collecting gifts, allowing people to help makes the day easier for everyone.

14. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

We promise…

Your guests won’t know if a centerpiece is six inches to the left.

They won’t notice if a flower falls.

They won’t remember whether dinner started five minutes late.

They’ll remember the laughter, the hugs, the dancing, and the love.

15. Soak it all in.

Take five minutes together—just the two of you.

Step away from the crowd.

Look around.

Take a deep breath.

Watch your family and friends celebrating together.

Those few quiet moments often become some of the most treasured memories of the entire day.

From Our Family to Yours

The Venue at Valley View Farm isn’t just a business to us—it’s our home, and every wedding held here becomes part of its story.

We’ve laughed with couples, cried during first dances, celebrated new beginnings, and watched families create memories that will last a lifetime.

Our goal has never been simply to rent you a venue.

Our goal is to help create a wedding weekend you’ll look back on with joy for years to come.

If you ever have questions before your wedding, please ask.

We’d much rather answer them ahead of time than have you worry about them on your wedding day.

Thank you for trusting us with one of the biggest days of your lives.

We truly can’t wait to celebrate with you.
